🌱 Our Timber
🌱 Responsible:
Our compost bins are made from timber, a natural and eco-friendly material that harmonises perfectly with your garden. Unlike plastic or metal alternatives, timber blends seamlessly into the natural environment. Rest assured that all our European Pine timber is responsibly sourced from UK and European forests. It is certified by internationally recognised organizations like the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification® (PEFC). By choosing our compost bins, you're making a sustainable choice for your garden.
🛠️ Maintenance:
Timber is not only beautiful but also built to last. Our compost bins feature thick boards (22-25mm thick) and 75mm (3-inch) posts that are designed to withstand the test of time. They are pressure treated to resist decay, eliminating the need for further treatment. However, applying non-toxic timber treatments, readily available in the market, can further enhance the longevity of your compost bin. We recommend rotating the boards periodically, particularly the bottom ones, as they are in constant contact with the damp environment. With minimal maintenance, your compost bin will remain functional for years to come.
🌲 Treatment:
We take great care in treating our timber to ensure durability and protection. All our timber undergoes a pressure treatment process using Osmose Naturewood (AC500), a treatment certified by the Soil Association as safe for use in food production-related products like raised beds. This high-pressure treatment incorporates copper and an organic co-biocide, providing effective defense against wood-boring insects and fungal decay. The timber initially has a slight greenish appearance, which gradually weathers to a natural honey brown color. Over time, it gracefully fades to a driftwood grey when exposed to the elements.
⏳ Longevity:
Our compost bins and beds are designed to provide you with many years of reliable service. However, like any timber product exposed to moisture, maintenance is essential for optimal performance. The bottom boards, in particular, may experience decay and rot over time. To prolong the life of your compost bin, simply remove and rotate the boards, ensuring fresh surfaces are exposed. In the unlikely event of any failing boards or posts within the first 5 years of purchase, we offer replacements. We also provide spare boards with your order for future use, ensuring your compost bin remains functional for years to come. Small splits in the timber are natural and do not affect the functionality of the bin.
🎨 Colour:
Feel free to customise your compost bin by adding color. You can easily paint or stain the timber to match your garden aesthetic or personal preference. This allows you to express your creativity while maintaining the functionality of the compost bin.
Choose our timber compost bins for a responsible, long-lasting, and customizable solution that seamlessly integrates with your garden. Experience the natural beauty and durability of timber while contributing to a more sustainable environment.
